The Master Bedroom

To delve into my design aesthetic comes down to being in a cozy and relaxing space that makes me feel as if I am always on vacation in a warm sunny place.  I live in Ohio and as we all know, those cold winters don’t exactly give you the warm cozy feeling. My space is not large therefore I prefer light colors on the walls to give that expansive feeling. I like to bring in different textures using wood, soft faux furs, and pillows, pillows, pillows!  You can change the look of a room just by changing the pillows - amazing!

When I think of a master bedroom, I think of an expansive space with a walk in closet that you can sit about and chit chat with friends, an on suite bathroom that goes on forever, you know the kind with the soaker tub, walk in shower, double sinks and a massive mirror to groom and prep for the day.  Ok, so I did not get any of those items with my home, but that’s ok. Actually, I almost did not purchase the house because the master bedroom did not seem large enough. I had to make this space my own and do whatever necessary to give it that feeling of not being small.  The large mirrors initially hung on the walls of some hotel, but I thought they would be a great headboard and they would make the room feel bigger.  I bought three mirrors which were originally in the $200.00 range for just one mirror, but were being sold for $25.00 a piece – eureka! The mirrors are a dream and definitely give that “my room is bigger than it is” feeling.

Even though my master bedroom is not big, the wall color (beautiful pale grey), white closet system (no doors, which it must stay neat), white furniture and bedding, give me the feeling of being on a cloud.  Dreamy!! See that “fake” window in the picture, that is actually where electrical boxes are located and what better way to hide them, a curtain that is still stylish, yet hiding what is truly unattractive electrical boxes.

Now I mentioned that walk-in closets are what I truly wanted, but my closet had a funky type of design.  In other words, nonfunctional! It was double sided with wire racks and shelves leaving me very little room to put anything.

There is always a way to reconfigure a room to give you extra storage.  It may not necessarily take a reconfiguration of space, it could possibly be about the furniture.  Having a bed with drawers is a phenomenal way to add storage. If you don’t want to run out and buy a bed, there are fabulous under the bed storage bins that roll right under the bed.  I would recommend putting items that you do not use often in these bins.

This curtain is the solution to a problem. There are two electrical boxes behind the curtain and with them being different sizes and in an awkward place, hanging a picture is not a viable option.
